Drive-in / Drive-through Racking 

Drive-in / Drive-through Racking is a high-density pallet storage system designed to maximize warehouse space utilization.

By reducing the number of aisles, it significantly increases storage capacity while maintaining efficient pallet handling.

Forklifts enter the rack lanes directly to load and retrieve pallets, making it an ideal solution for storing large quantities of similar products.

Drive-in racking follows the Last-In, First-Out (LIFO) principle, while Drive-through racking allows loading from one side and unloading from the other, supporting First-In, First-Out (FIFO) inventory management.

Components

Drive-in / Drive-through Racking consists of several key structural components that ensure high-density storage and safe pallet handling:

1.Upright Frames – Provide the main structural support for the entire racking system.

2.Top Beams & Top Cross – Enhance the stability and rigidity of the rack structure.

3.Rail Beams (Pallet Rails)– Support pallets on both sides and guide forklift operations inside the storage lanes.
4.Support Arms – Connect the rail beams to the upright frames and transfer pallet loads safely.
5.Guide Rails (Optional) – Installed at the lane entrance to protect rack uprights from forklift impacts.
6.Back Stops (Optional) – Prevent pallets from being pushed beyond the designed storage position.
7.Ground Anchors – Secure the rack system firmly to the warehouse floor for maximum safety.

How It Works

1. Forklift picks up a loaded pallet.
2. The forklift enters the storage lane through the rack entrance.
3. The pallet is placed onto the rail beams at the designated storage position.
4. Additional pallets are stored sequentially along the same lane.
5. For Drive-in Racking, pallets are retrieved in Last-In, First-Out (LIFO) order.
6. For Drive-through Racking, pallets are loaded from one side and retrieved from the
opposite side, enabling First-In, First-Out (FIFO) inventory management.
